Dog and Puppy Classes in Takoma Park, MD
I offer classes for puppies and dogs of all ages: Puppy Kindergarten, Puppy II, Basic Manners, and my new, pay-as-you go Around Town Training Walks.
Puppy Kindergarten (8 weeks to 6 months)
If you have a puppy, you need Puppy Kindergarten! Early puppy socialization helps prevent behavior problems later on. Each class includes supervised, off-leash play, basic manners training, and socialization.
Puppy II: The Adolescent Puppy (6 to 18 months)
Puppies in adolescence tend to get bolder, less focused, and develop “selective listening.” This class will teach and build upon basic skills with a focus on impulse control, not jumping, and polite behavior around other dogs and people. Whether you’ve been through puppy class or just adopted your puppy, this class will teach the manners your pup needs. Dogs should be friendly toward dogs and people and current on vaccinations.
Adult Dog Basic Manners (1 year and older)
Teach your dog skills, learn how dogs learn, and have fun. This class covers the basics, and is suitable for dogs who are new to training and for those that need to brush up on their skills. Dogs should be friendly toward dogs and people and current on vaccinations. No pinch, prong, choke, or electronic collars allowed in the classroom. For dogs 1 year and older.
Around Town - Pay-As-You-Go Training Class
Work on your dog's manners in the "real world." This is a pay-as-you-go group class that meets at different locations outdoors, including parks and urban settings. This is an opportunity to practice with more distractions, fine-tune your dog's behaviors, and work on advanced skills. Classes will be offered periodically each month. Dogs must be at least 6 months of age and have had basic training. If you’re unsure if you should enroll, contact me.
Puppy and basic manners classes are held at the Hefner Community Center, 42 Oswego Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912.
